A catering business owner was in desperate need of supplies and turned to Instagram as she usually does when she requires foreign products. The caterer saw a sponsored advertisement on Instagram for this specific page @fambeec, which had over 15k followers. With this, she probably felt she was on the right track and couldn’t be scammed, and she hasn’t been scammed since she started buying things on Instagram.
She contacted the handler of @fambeec on Instagram on Saturday to place an order for the goods (7 bags of per excellence rice and 3 cartons of Wesson’s canola oil), and @fambeec said they were all available. The caterer made an initial payment of #83,000 naira, followed by another payment of #281,000 naira.
The handler of @fambeec promised to deliver the goods the next day, and the unsuspecting buyer waited but never arrived.
The unsuspecting individual dialed the number of @fambeec’s handler and sent messages on Instagram, the handler of @fambeec still assured her that the goods would be delivered as promised.
After some time, the handler of @fambeec eventually got back to the caterer saying that the order was denied because it did not meet the N450,000 naira minimum and that the unsuspecting buyer should place more orders and pay an additional #148,000 naira.
The handler went on to explain that’s how her company works and it wasn’t explained to the buyer before making initial payments. The unsuspecting buyer disagreed with the handler of @fambeec, claiming that was all she needed.
The handler of @fambeec immediately blocked the unsuspecting buyer on social media platforms and stopped answering her phone calls.
Unfortunately, the items purchased by the buyer are required for an outdoor job on Wednesday.
