On November 28th, 2022, an online vendor received a message from a person named “Ola Nelson.”
He stated that he wanted to buy a moissanite diamond necklace and pendant and then proceeded to choose from the available options. He agreed to pay N920,000 naira for the selected goods after negotiating with the online vendor but insisted on payment upon delivery.
The online vendor does not usually accept the mode of payment, but due to the way the buyer communicated, the online vendor agreed to payment on delivery.
The online vendor dispatched one of her dispatch riders to handle the delivery, and as soon as he arrived in Lekki to make the delivery, he called Ola Nelson to confirm his location, which was supposed to be an office address, but he was directed to meet him at The Place restaurant along Admiralty Way, Lekki.
Here’s how the jewelry was stolen by Ola Nelson the thief.
He asked the rider to unbox the package so that he could test the authenticity of the jewelry, which the rider agreed to after the test. Ola Nelson was supposed to pay for the goods immediately, but instead, he messaged the online vendor to confirm the account details to make payments, which the vendor did.
The vendor at this point started to get impatient, the next thing Ola Nelson asked the rider to wear the jewelry on his neck so that he could check the fitting.
a few minutes later, Ola Nelson told the rider that he has made the transfer, so the rider, in turn, called the vendor to confirm the payments but the vendor was yet to confirm.
During this process, Ola Nelson told the rider he wanted to quickly step out to get some things while the jewelry was on his neck.
The rider had forgotten to take the jewelry off Ola Nelson’s neck, and he assumed Ola Nelson had no bad intentions. Ola Nelson walked away and never returned.
The vendor called Ola Nelson to inform her that her rider was still waiting; he denied receiving any item and immediately blocked the vendor’s phone number.
The vendor discovered that all of the information Ola Nelson provided was false.
To date, Ola Nelson has not been located, and no payments have been received by the vendor.
