A Lagos State health worker described how a shoe vendor defrauded her of N9,500 naira she paid for a pair of pink shoes on Facebook.
The unsuspecting customer saw an advertisement on Facebook on the business page Collection by AW for shoes in various sizes and colors and decided to purchase one, only to be duped by the woman behind the page.
“The initial payment she made to vendor Firstmonie Wallet was refunded. So the handler of the Facebook page provided another account, which was a Palmpay account number, and she made a successful payment of N9,500 naira, which included a delivery fee.
Speaking further about her interactions with the vendor, the handler ended the conversation with her after payment was confirmed.
When the customer contacted the handler on the day she was supposed to deliver her order, the handler did not respond for six days after another message from the customer, and the handler instructed the customer to resend proof of payment, which the customer did.
The handler informed the customer that the ordered items were out of stock and that she would contact her when they were available in stock.
The customer contacted the handler again to inquire about the specific delivery date, but her messages were not returned.
The unsuspecting customer requested a refund through the vendor’s Facebook page; the handler blocked the customer on all social media handles, and her phone number is no longer working.”
Following further investigation by a source, the handler uses account numbers on Firstmonie Wallet and Palmpay after using Truecaller, a caller identity-storing app, on the phone number. ‘C.e.o Stephs Apparell’ was written on the Firstmonie Wallet. She is known as ‘Fashion House’ on WhatsApp.
Further investigation by a source reveals that she had duped other people out of various sums under the guise of selling shoes on Facebook.
Attempts to access her Facebook page revealed that it was inaccessible.
To date, no items have been delivered, and no refund.
