In a significant legal development, Mr. John Adjeke Akpoghene, an employee of the Delta State House of Assembly, has been sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in a N14.5 million salary fraud case.
Akpoghene faced charges brought forth by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in the Delta State High Court located in Asaba.
The ICPC, in a one-count charge presented before Justice Onome Marshal-Umukoro of the Delta State High Court Asaba, accused Akpoghene of unlawfully receiving dual salaries from both the Delta State House of Assembly and the Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Mrs. S. Chibuzor, the counsel representing ICPC, informed the court that Akpoghene had deceitfully obtained a total of N14,525,550 as double salary payments over a span of four years, concurrently holding positions as a state civil servant and a supervisory councilor with Ughelli South Local Government Area.
