In a significant development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Apostle Theophilus Oloche Ebonyi, the General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International.
The arrest is related to an alleged scam involving fake grants from the Ford Foundation, amounting to N1,319,040,274.31.EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale disclosed that Ebonyi exploited social media platforms to defraud church members, NGOs, and unsuspecting individuals.
Operating through his NGO, Theobarth Global Foundation, he falsely claimed a $20 million grant from the Ford Foundation for an intervention project aimed at assisting the less-privileged in society.
Each subscriber was persuaded to pay N1,800,000 for registration forms and clusters, resulting in a total accumulation of N1.3 billion.Investigations conducted by the EFCC revealed that there was no legitimate arrangement, grant, or relationship between Ebonyi, his NGO, and the Ford Foundation.
The Foundation explicitly disclaimed any association with them. The EFCC has also traced five properties acquired by Ebonyi through illicit gains. The suspect is expected to face legal charges once the investigation is concluded.
