Charles Osaigbovo and Evans Obayaedo, residents of Oyo State in Nigeria, were apprehended for their involvement in a scam targeting an unnamed British woman. The duo deceitfully posed as Fredrick Leonard, a renowned Nollywood actor, and movie producer, to defraud the victim of a substantial sum of £38,000.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed that Osaigbovo and Obayaedo were apprehended in Ibadan earlier this month, following a complaint filed by the British woman. According to the EFCC, the petitioner claimed to have initially connected with Leonard on the popular social media platform TikTok and eventually developed a romantic relationship.
The petitioner further alleged that Leonard had proposed an investment opportunity in a non-existent film project, which led her to transfer £38,000 to the suspects’ account as a supposed investment in the film production.
After exhausting all efforts to recover her investment, the British victim realized that she had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme. Subsequently, she reported the incident to the EFCC.
The EFCC’s investigation uncovered that Osaigbovo and Obayaedo, arrested in Ibadan, had been actively impersonating Fredrick Leonard to deceive unsuspecting individuals on various social media platforms for financial gain.
