Online shoppers need to exercise caution when dealing with purported legitimate vendors who use enticing prices to deceive unsuspecting customers and abscond with their hard-earned money.
An example of such fraudulent Instagram pages is @pop_a_surprise and @2danimationcomics_, claiming to offer handmade personalized balloon gifts for any occasion.
The victim engaged with the handlers of these pages, @pop_a_surprise and @2danimationcomics_, and negotiated payment for the following items: 13 helium number balloons priced at N9,000 each, 6 helium round-shaped balloons priced at N3,000 each, totaling N18,000, and a large helium balloon for a birthday celebration priced at N8,000, amounting to a total of N35,000.
Trusting the transaction, the victim made a payment of N35,000 to the account provided by the handlers of @pop_a_surprise and @2danimationcomics_, expecting the items to be delivered. However, days passed, and no items were received.
The victim attempted to contact the handlers but discovered she had been blocked.
To date, no items have been delivered, and a refund has not been issued.
