A troubling case has come to light involving Ajayi Seyi, who posed as a staff member of the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) to defraud unsuspecting job seekers of a total of N280,000. Victor Kayode, an event planner based in Ilesa, shared his account of how Ajayi duped him and his friends with false promises of securing them jobs.
According to Kayode, he was introduced to Ajayi through a mutual acquaintance named Akintunde Akinsola, a correctional officer in Osogbo, Osun State. Akintunde claimed that Ajayi could help them secure positions at the Lagos State Government Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.
“We reached out to Ajayi and he confirmed it. He told us that Akintunde had informed him about us already and he was willing to help,” Kayode explained.
Ajayi told them they needed various documents for the job application, including Lagos State indigene certificates, medical and Covid-19 tests, employment letters, age declarations from a court, and primary school testimonials. Despite their initial skepticism, Ajayi convinced them that these documents were crucial due to the stringent employment process in Lagos for non-residents.
Seyi instructed each of them to pay specific amounts for various documents, totaling N65,000 per person, not including additional fees for accommodation and miscellaneous expenses.
Upon arriving in Lagos to initiate the employment process, they found themselves caught in a web of excuses and misinformation from Ajayi. He continuously demanded more money while spinning tales of powerful figures in Lagos tampering with their job slots. Eventually, it became clear that they had been deceived.
Desperate for assistance, they approached various ministries at the secretariat but met dead ends, except for a security officer who confirmed similar cases. They reached out to Akintunde, who acted surprised but seemed to be complicit in the scam.
As the truth emerged, Ajayi cut off all communication with them, leaving them defrauded and betrayed.
When contacted, Ajayi denied the allegations before disconnecting the call. He did not respond to subsequent text messages.
