After looking for anybody or a dog breeder who had a caucasian dog for sale, we met this guy. He sent pictures and videos of dogs trying to make us feel he ran a genuine business. We were careful and put our own safety measures and requested for “pay on delivery” after he sought payment.
The scammer now told us to pay money before he can bring the dog to us because where he lives is very far and for other logistics like a basket for the dog. After arguments about how much we will pay him, we settled at 9K. And before we made the payment, we had a voice call with him to further confirm how genuine he was.
We switched to a video call when he told us that he was sick and recovering from surgery in the hospital. From the video call, it looked legit as we saw that he was actually there.
Later on, he informed us that his boy was at Ikeja ready to bring the dog, that all we needed to do was to make half or full payment before we can get the dog. It was at that point he dawned on us that we have entered the hands of a scammer.
He gave us the driver’s number to also confirm that they have the dog. The supposed driver is also an accomplice to the scammer.
From our experience, we feel his format is to first request for transport costs in order to commit us, then ask for half payment, and lastly, the balance payment without seeing or getting the dog.
