The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) urgently informs all citizens about a concerning 5G Mobile Sim Card scam. It has come to our attention that certain miscreants involved in cybercrime are taking advantage of the recent 5G service launch to deceive the general public.
The scammers are using phone calls to target unsuspecting individuals, pretending to be representatives from telecom companies. They will inform you that you need to update your current Sim card from 4G to 5G and will request an OTP (One-Time Password) for the update process.
We strongly advise you not to share the OTP sent to you by these callers under any circumstances.
Providing the OTP to these fraudsters would grant them access to your bank account, allowing them to transfer all your funds to their own account. Therefore, it is crucial not to divulge any OTP if asked by a stranger.
The EFCC’s Cyber Crime Department is working diligently to investigate and counter such scams, but we also rely on the cooperation of the public in staying vigilant and protecting their financial security.
Please share this information with family and friends to raise awareness about this 5G Mobile Sim Card scam. Together, we can thwart the efforts of these cybercriminals and safeguard our community against such fraudulent activities.
Regards,
Cyber Crime Department (EFCC)
