In a recent incident, a youth corps member fell victim to a cunning online scam orchestrated by an individual running a fraudulent Instagram page under the username @thrift_by_pinky_n_more. The devious page purported to specialize in wholesale and retail of high-quality thrifted jeans.
The corps member stumbled upon appealing jeans showcased on the @thrift_by_pinky_n_more Instagram page and initiated contact with the account handler to purchase two pairs of jeans, each valued at N7,500, amounting to a total transaction of N15,000.
With trust established, the corps member executed a transfer of the designated amount to the provided bank account linked to @thrift_by_pinky_n_more. Both parties acknowledged the payment’s completion.
The handler of the account assured the corps member that the items would be delivered using a courier service. It was agreed that payment for the delivery would be made upon receipt of the items. This arrangement was acceptable to the corps member.
However, the handler abruptly vanished, ignoring the corps member’s attempts at communication. At one point, the handler even blocked the corps member, intensifying the distressing situation. This prompted the intervention of a platform called ScamExpress.
ScamExpress engaged with @thrift_by_pinky_n_more and its handler. Initially, the handler offered an apology, attributing the delay to personal projects. A commitment to deliver the items by the weekend was made, but correspondence during this period remained sparse.
ScamExpress advised the corps member to exercise patience, but as the promised deadline came and went, @thrift_by_pinky_n_more blocked ScamExpress and the corps member on Instagram, indicating an escalation of deceitful intent.
Regrettably, despite these interactions and efforts, neither the promised items were delivered nor was any refund issued to the victimized corps member.
